Effects of Exercise on Mental Health
Studies have suggested that physical activity may have major benefits for various mental health issues. There is increasing evidence that "an association between regular physical activity engagement and a reduction in depressive symptomatology" exists (Patel, Keogh, Kolt, & Schofield, 2013). Regular exercise can have both short term and long term effects. Immediately after exercise, a person feels happier and generally in a better mood. If constant exercise is done, long term effects may develop. This could potentially lead to lessening of symptoms for various mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.
There are many components of mental health that exercise can have great benefits on. This website will examine the effects of exercise on anxiety, depression, aging as well how different types of exercises can affect mental health.
